ING and Datascouts provide insight into innovative ecosystems

ING wants to support innovative entrepreneurs and not just with bank funding.

This is why ING created a new function five years ago. ING’s 50 Innovation Bankers are the ideal points of contact not only for technological start- and scale-ups but also for established SMEs working on their business’s digital transition.

Innovative Bankers help start-ups finding funding during the development phase of their solution. They do this by putting them in touch with business angels, venture capital organisations, government bodies such as PMV in Flanders, and relevant customers and partners of the bank.

Datascouts

It soon became clear that there was a need for a tool that the Innovation Bankers and their associates could use to objectify and classify the start-up ecosystems. This tool needs to produce as complete a picture as possible of who is active in what sector, what technology is used, and track the development phase in which the start-ups currently are.

The bank found the Ghent-based company Datascouts via its partner Startups.be. Startups.be used a management platform developed by Datascouts for its data.

Datascouts was set up by Ingrid Willems in 2016. Before this, Ingrid held a number of positions, including COO of Immoweb. She is convinced of the importance of market intelligence for companies, and the role that AI can play in unlocking this. And that is what Datascout’s competitive intelligence platform does.

For the management platform for start-ups, Startups.be collected the data and Datascouts produced the database and visualisation tools.

Patented score system
Datascouts enables ING to collect the very latest information about start- and scale-ups completely automatically

Currently, Datascouts is a mature management and prospection tool that can also measure competitive capacity thanks to a patented score system. Datascouts is used by firms such as Roche Pharmaceuticals and Teamleader, but also by the City of Ghent and government bodies such as Lifetech Brussels or Innovaud, the innovation management organisation located in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Datascouts enables ING to collect the very latest information about start- and scale-ups completely automatically. This information relates to their development phase, their capital and funding, and their customer acquisition. The tool also offers users new commercial opportunities, including via sectoral clustering.

Thanks to the tool developed for ING by Datascouts, the bank is able to provide a unique service to all businesses that prioritise innovation.

In two clicks, the tool produces complete analyses of ecosystems.
