All companies are at risk without protection
Without these protections, fraudsters can easily replace the bank details of the company issuing the invoice with their own to receive the amounts invoiced.
Changing the bank details of your supplier
Fraudsters use many different methods:
- They intercept invoices and change the supplier's account number,
- They create a fake invoice using public data about your commercial relationships,
- They pirate the mailbox of one of your suppliers and send a request to change an account number,
- They pirate one of your company's email addresses and send an internal email to the accounting department requesting a change in a supplier's bank.
Always double-check all requests for changes in bank details
This also applies to changes in contact information to ensure that the telephone number of the fraudsters is not entered into your accounting system at verification time.
Modify your contracts to enter the accounting data of your suppliers before the first invoice is issued
The first invoice could be fraudulent. By adding contact information, including the bank details of the supplier in your contracts, your accounting department will be able to create the profile of the supplier in their system at the time the commercial relationship is signed. This will enable identification of any potential fake invoices.
Who should you contact in the event of doubt or fraud?
Other formalities may also be required by the authorities (filing a complaint with the police, etc.). Our specialists can advise you on the steps to take.
