Illness, accident, theft…: being a natural optimist should not stop you from being prepared. It is impossible to imagine that anything could spoil your holiday. By taking precautions, you can travel without a care in the world.
1. Make a copy of your important documents
A bag forgotten on the bus, documents stolen from a bungalow, a wallet lost – it does not only happen to the others. That is why it is worth having a copy of your most important documents. Make a photocopy or take a photo of your passport and important documents. Keep the copies in a separate place to the originals, or store everything in your mobile or your mailbox.
2. Write down the important numbers
Make a note of your insurance policies in a notebook and your mobile so you do not waste any time looking for them in case you need them. If your bank and/or credit card have disappeared, call immediately Card Stop on + 32 78 170 170.
3. European Health Insurance Card
Do you need medication to treat traveller's diarrhoea or sunstroke? Toothache or a minor illness that needs treating straight away? In Europe, your Belgian SIS card will be of no use. You must present your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which you can get from your health insurance company.
4. Your hospitalisation insurance on hand
Fell off your bike? Head-on collision with a donkey? If you have to be hospitalised, this insurance covers your fees abroad, just as in Belgium. However, it does not cover repatriation.
5. Insurance for the length of your trip
Lost luggage, broken-down car, repatriation – when you are abroad you cannot call parents or friends to come to your rescue. With travel insurance, you have support 24/7.
