“Forward this message to 5 friends and win!”

Someone you know tries to convince you to forward a message to all your contacts via WhatsApp because you can win a free flight or free tickets to Disneyland.

How does it work?

You receive a message on an app like WhatsApp or Messenger with a tempting offer: click here and win free airline tickets, serious sales on your favourite brands, etc.

This is phishing. The aim of the fraudsters is to collect information that they will use against you. Sometimes, they also ask for your credit card information. The carrot is a free gift that you can win by sending the message you just received to your contacts. Because it makes the phishing more successful when you receive it from someone you know.

In the end, you won’t receive anything.

What can you do to prevent it?
What to do if it happens?
